Business Sectors

We have extensive experience in public, private and not-for-profit companies, and in a large variety of business sectors including the financial and technical sectors. Each company and each business sector has its own culture and we aim to fit in with that culture.

Public companies have included many listed companies in the FTSE250.

With regard to not-for-profit companies, we have acted as Company Secretary for a number of national charities and, for some, taken Trustee roles on the Board. We are well versed in both charity and company law.

Company clients are/have been in wholesale and in retail, including wine merchants, stationery and office equipment suppliers and machinery suppliers.

VC Associates has always had client companies in the financial sector, including banks, insurance and investment companies, and totally understands the needs and regulatory requirements of FCA/PRA regulated companies.

We also work in the tech sector. This is a fast growing sector with companies that need help and support especially in the early years, with the set-up of the initial governance structure, policies, HR (People) function, a legal structure, GDPR requirements, and communication with investors, as well as the usual company secretarial support – we have helped tech companies through those early stages of development.

VC Associates’ expertise in both the financial sector and the tech sector has naturally also led to work in the FinTech sector. This can be a particularly challenging area with the regulatory demands of the financial sector including the pressure of developing the technical capabilities to comply with those requirements, and the more common demands of a fast growing tech company.

VC Associates have looked after legal, company secretarial and regulatory responsibilities for companies in the media, leisure and entertainment sectors. This has included work for companies in the sports industry and in the music sector.

We have, in particular worked for a musician management group for many years, whose clients include such artists as Phil Collins and Genesis. This area of business includes an awareness of its high profile nature, and therefore careful handling, of items in the public domain.

VC Associates have had contracts with property and construction companies including Hammerson Plc and The British Land Company Plc. Such companies set up separate companies (SPVs) for each new venture, to ring-fence each project. There is therefore a huge demand for professional company law and company secretarial services as well as an awareness of building contracts, leases, insurances, and other relevant legal requirements.

We have worked with many companies in the service sector including Rentokil Initial Plc and the OCS Group. These are companies with many different services, run through separate companies and separate company groups.

With the multi-national company groups, there is also a need to understand legal and regulatory requirements abroad, including dealing with off-shore companies.

Another multi-national company with which we worked was Camellia Plc which, as well as having a large property portfolio, has business all over the world varying from engineering in the UK to tea production in India and wine production in South Africa.

VC Associates have supplied company law/company secretarial services to clients of accountancy and solicitor firms where the firms concerned have needed specialist support to look after their clients’ needs. These services have been offered in the name of the firm or in our own name.
